| Clement retires from Blue Jays: Toronto pitcher Matt Clement informed the Blue Jays on Sunday that he plans to retire from baseball after spending the past three years attempting to return from right shoulder complications, reports MLB.com. Clement, 34, was signed to a minor league contract in December. He had a chance to make the starting rotation out of spring training but came up short and was asked to go to Triple-A Las Vegas. "I was talking to Matty," Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said on Sunday. "His heart wasn't in it, you could just tell. He's come back from so much. He's come a long way, and I give him credit for that. I think he was just tired of fighting, to be honest with you." (Updated 04/05/2009) |
