| Maholm officially joins Cubs: SP Paul Maholm finalized his one-year, $4.25 million deal with the Cubs on Tuesday. The deal includes a one-year, $6.5 million option for 2013. Maholm posted a 4.36 ERA in seven seasons with the Pirates. He went 6-14 with a 3.66 ERA in 26 starts last year. (Updated 01/10/2012) |

| Fantasy Analysis |
| The shoulder strain that limited Maholm late last season doesn't seem to be an issue anymore, so the finesse lefty is expected to have a rotation spot in Chicago to begin the 2012 season. He had a couple of good years in Pittsburgh -- last year included -- but he didn't get enough run support to make much of a Fantasy impact. That won't necessarily change with the Cubs, but at least Maholm will be pitching in a familiar division. He's worth drafting as a middle-of-the-road option late in NL-only leagues.
