| Hayes OK with backup role: Despite a managerial change during the season, Florida C Brett Hayes has kept his role as the team's backup catcher -- which suits him just fine. "I've known what my role is since spring training, and it's backup [to John Buck], and that's what I've been doing," Hayes, who has made 18 starts, told MLB.com on Wednesday. "I feel comfortable doing it." Hayes is hitting .273 with three homers and 13 RBI in 77 at-bats this season. (Updated 08/03/2011) |

| Hayes said he continues to learn about preparation from Buck, an eight-year veteran, who signed with the Marlins during the offseason. "Just the way he goes about his game plans getting ready for a baseball game," Hayes told MLB.com. "The way he prepares is very professional, and he's ready to play every day."
