Lowe looks better, earns victory: Braves SP Derek Lowe, who had struggled with an 8.61 ERA over his last five starts, seemingly righted the ship at Coors Field on Friday, allowing one run on four hits in six innings. "Derek Lowe was the No. 1 reason for us winning tonight," Braves manager Bobby Cox said. "He used that sinker an awful lot. He got groundballs and got some strikeouts, too. I think he's back to normal again." Lowe issued just one walk and recorded five strikeouts, earning the victory. "I had been killing myself over the past five starts thinking over what I had done," Lowe said. "So I thought zero mechanical stuff. I thought just to get the ball and throw it and keep it on the ground."

Lowe certainly didn't look like himself during that five-start stretch, his ERA ballooning up to 4.56, so you have to figure he has a hot streak coming up. He's not a Fantasy ace, offering limited strikeout potential, but he eats innings and is effective more often than not. Get him active for the short week after the All-Star break.
