Falcons' Dan Quinn wants to re-sign Sean Weatherspoon
by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com

Though Sean Weatherspoon missed most of the past two seasons due to injuries, Falcons coach Dan Quinn is hopeful the franchise can re-sign the standout inside linebacker to a new contract before he hits the free agent market on March 10.

"With him, it's that toughness and the speed that he can play with so, yes, definitely someone that we're talking to," Quinn said via ESPN.com. "I know he's got that kind of attitude. And you know me, just from watching our style of defense, it's fast and physical. And that's what Sean is. So, we're certainly hoping that he can be a big part of it moving forward."

Weatherspoon played in only seven games during the 2013 season due to a Lisfranc sprain in his foot. He missed all of 2014 due to an Achilles tear.

Weatherspoon was the Falcons' first-round pick in the 2010 draft. He's totaled 290 tackles, eight sacks and two interceptions during his career.

Report: AFC team interested in potential FA Sean Weatherspoon
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

At least one AFC team would have interest in linebacker Sean Weatherspoon if he reaches free agency in March, ESPN.com reports.

The Falcons indicated earlier this month that they hoped to re-sign Weatherspoon, who is rehabbing from Achilles surgery after rupturing a tendon last summer. He racked up 115 tackles while playing all 16 games in 2011 but managed to see time in just 20 games between 2012 and 2013 before suffering the Achilles injury.

Falcons hoping to resign LB Sean Weatherspoon
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff indicated Tuesday that the team wants to resign linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

"Sean Weatherspoon is going to be an important part of building this defense and building this team," Dimitroff said. "He has that side of him and that leadership that we need across the board."

Weatherspoon is working his way back from Achilles surgery after rupturing the tendon in June. He has started to run seven months into what could be an eight-to-10 month rehab process.

"He’s a guy that’s really, really focused on his rehab," Dimitroff said. "We need him back in this organization to help us go to another level. He’s starting to move around."

Weatherspoon's rookie contract expired at the end of the 2014 season, leaving him slated to reach free agency.

Sean Weatherspoon out for season
by Jamey Eisenberg | Senior Fantasy Writer

The Falcons announced Tuesday that linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will miss the entire 2014 season after rupturing his Achilles tendon during a workout.

"During Sean's run today with our medical staff, he suffered an injury," coach Mike Smith said in a statement. "We sent Sean to the doctor for some additional testing and evaluation and unfortunately the results showed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon. Sean had been working extremely hard to get back on the field, but regrettably he will miss the entire 2014 season. He will have a procedure done in the near future and we expect him to make a full recovery."

Weatherspoon is entering the final year of his contract and will be a free agent after this year.

Sean Weatherspoon pumped about Falcons' additions
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon recorded 211 tackles and seven sacks in 2011-12 before getting 38 stops and no sacks in an injury-plagued 2013 season. Weatherspoon, 26, told ESPN.com that the team's offseason moves, especially the signing of nose tackle Paul Soliai, will make his job a lot easier.

"Bringing in somebody of that caliber, I've seen him over the years and the way he's been playing,'' Weatherspoon said of Soliai. "He's a big guy and real big for run-stopping. He'll whip up on the center, and that's the apex of the offense. So I think that's something that can be great.

"We signed all our defensive tackles back from last year [Jonathan Babineaux, Corey Peters, Peria Jerry]. Bringing those three guys back along with [Soliai] and bringing a big guy on the outside in [defensive end] Tyson Jackson ... they made some moves, man. It's definitely saying that we're active and we want to turn things around."
