Chargers' Philip Rivers: Tosses one touchdown against Kansas City
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Rivers completed 25 of 36 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. He added nine rushing yards on two carries.

The main story coming out of Sunday's game is the fate of Keenan Allen. Losing Allen for the year would no doubt cut deeply into Rivers' value. Rivers was posting a 102.1 quarterback rating through eight weeks last season until Allen was lost for the year. He proceeded to post a rating of 84.6 for the remainder of the season, with his completion percentage, yards per game and touchdown:interception ratio all plunging. If there is a silver lining, it's the potential of the team's running game. The Chargers rushed for 155 yards on Sunday after topping the century mark just three times last season. In those three games, Rivers' quarterback rating was 101.9 and he completed 70.8 percent of his passes at 8.1 yards per attempt. In the 13 games the Chargers failed to run for 100 yards, Rivers' quarterback rating was 92.4 and he completed 65.3 percent of his passes at 7.1 yards per attempt.

Chargers' Philip Rivers: Restructures contract with Chargers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rivers recently restructured his contract with the Chargers, The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Rivers' contract details were revised in order to open some short-term salary cap space for the Chargers, who have a number of players that need to be paid on injured reserve. Although $6 million of Rivers' salary was transferred to a roster bonus, he'll still earn his originally scheduled $16.5 million this season, but San Diego will have $1.5 million less cap room in the next three years as a result of Rivers' restructuring.

Chargers' Philip Rivers: Shaky performance in preseason start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rivers completed five of his nine passes for 54 yards and an interception in the Chargers' preseason loss to the Vikings.

In likely his final action of the preseason, Rivers was kept quiet, resorting mainly to check down passes and dump offs over the middle of the field in order to move the ball. While the numbers certainly don't look good, his lone interception did come off a dropped pass by Keenan Allen which bounced neatly into the arms of Vikings safety Harrison Smith. Despite the rocky start, Rivers still figures to put up strong fantasy numbers in a dynamic Chargers offense.

Chargers' Philip Rivers: Will not play Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rivers will sit out Friday's preseason matchup with the Cardinals, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The veteran quarterback attempted just three passes in Week 1 of the preseason. The move to rest Rivers is unsurprising, as the Chargers are clearly opting to favor his health over the need for preseason snaps. Also, he received plenty of work in two joint practices with the Cardinals early in the week.

Chargers' Philip Rivers: Leads touchdown drive in lone possesion
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rivers completed 2-of-3 passes for 64 yards and a touchdown in his only drive of Saturday's preseason opening 27-10 loss at Tennessee.

Rivers capped his only drive with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Melvin Gordon. Last year's second-leading passer looks ready to carry that form into 2016 at age 34.
