Cardinals' Chris Johnson: Receives four carries Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Johnson turned four carries into seven yards during Friday's preseason defeat at San Diego.

Preseason performances for a veteran like Johnson don't mean all that much in the end, as he's merely reacquainting himself with the contact that he's endured for eight NFL seasons. The breakdown of snaps after David Johnson has been more telling. During both of the Cardinals' exhibitions to date, the second-year pro has earned the start, with the veteran immediately following in his wake. At numerous points in the offseason, head coach Bruce Arians has termed David Johnson the bell-cow back in Arizona, but Chris Johnson is still expected to be a regular contributor in the upcoming campaign.

Cardinals' Chris Johnson: Feeling much better in 2016
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Johnson feels much better this year than he did in 2015, when he signed with the Cardinals in the middle of training camp, the Arizona Republic reports.

Johnson remained a free agent far longer than expected due to an offseason shooting incident in which he took a bullet to the trapezoid muscle. After inking a deal with the Cardinals on Aug. 17, 2015, he strained his right hamstring on the second day of training camp, and despite landing the starting RB job in Week 2 due to a knee injury to Andre Ellington, Johnson spent most of the season working himself into shape. In the end, Johnson suffered a season-ending fractured left tibia in Week 12, opening the door for David Johnson's coming out party. While head coach Bruce Arians considers the second-year pro as his do-everything back, the Johnsons are "even" as ball carriers, according to offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin, which will likely result in a consistent workload for Chris Johnson on a weekly basis.

Cardinals' Chris Johnson: Stays with Cardinals
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

The Cardinals and Johnson agreed to a one-year contract Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

After taking a visit to the RB-needy Dolphins this week, Johnson has decided to remain in Arizona, where he revitalized his career in 2015 to the tune of 814 yards on the ground and three touchdowns in 11 games. However, he sustained a fractured left tibia in Week 12, ending his season as the Cardinals went on to lose in the NFC championship game. The injury allowed David Johnson to take the reins of the rushing attack, meaning the elder Johnson will be relegated to a reserve role in the fall.

Chris Johnson: Expected to choose between Dolphins and Cardinals
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Chris Johnson is expected to make a choice between Miami and Arizona as his free agent destination, Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reports.

Other teams have requested a visit from Johnson, but he isn't likely to make them according to La Canfora. Johnson rushed for 814 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games for the Cardinals in 2015; he would likely take the top running back job from Lamar Miller should he take his talents to Miami.

Chris Johnson: In Miami for a visit
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Johnson (knee) was in Miami for a visit on Wednesday, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

The Dolphins lost out on C.J. Anderson when the Broncos matched the contract offer Tuesday but they are still looking for a veteran back to compete for the starting job with Jay Ajayi. Johnson had a productive season for Arizona last year rushing for 814 yards before suffering a broken leg in Week 12 that prematurely ended his 2015 campaign.
