Broncos' Mark Sanchez: Has work to do in training camp
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Sanchez (thumb) has only a slight edge in the Broncos' quarterback battle, Troy Renck of The Denver Post reports.

Back and forth the rumor mill goes. Sanchez's grip on the starting job seems to change daily - fueled by a few quotes from head coach Gary Kubiak and reporters' observations from segments of practices. The truth is that clarity into the Broncos' quarterback situation won't come until depth charts are released. Nobody ever mistook Sanchez for anything more than a veteran stopgap, but given that he's the only quarterback on the roster with a NFL passing attempt, it'd be a pretty big upset if he doesn't open the season as the starter.

Broncos' Mark Sanchez: FInds competition for quarterback job
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Sanchez (thumb) is engaged in a neck-and-neck battle for Denver's top job with Trevor Siemian, The Denver Post reports.

Just a week ago, the team's official website reported that Sanchez was cementing his place as the starter. So what gives? Chalk it up to the offseason news cycle that magnifies every ebb and flow in a position battle. While Siemian does have the most experience in Denver's offense, Sanchez has a background in it and has far more playing time under his belt. Both Siemian and first-round pick Paxton Lynch are dark horses to steal the job with strong camps - Sanchez is hardly the kind of quarterback who a team can hang its hat on - but it would still be an upset at this point if the veteran didn't start the season opener against Carolina.

Broncos' Mark Sanchez: Holding onto No. 1 job
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Sanchez (thumb) is solidifying his place atop Denver's depth chart, 9NEWS reports.

Though there have been reports touting both holdover Trevor Siemian and rookie Paxton Lynch, the news solidifies what many assumed on draft night - that Sanchez would likely be Denver's Week 1 starter. Sanchez might be new to town, but he reportedly ran a similiar offense at USC, offers the lone veteran presence at the position and has been active in trying to bond with his new teammates. There might be a point during training camp that Lynch or Siemian catches up, but for now, the safe bet is on Sanchez to start the season.

Broncos' Mark Sanchez: Aided by experience
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sanchez's experience figures to give him an edge in the Broncos' starting quarterback competition, The Denver Post reports.

Sanchez, who had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his non-throwing hand's thumb earlier this month, participated in seven-on-seven and positional drills along with rookie Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian during OTAs this week. Although those two were also able to go through team drills, something Sanchez was unable to do, Sanchez's previous experience as an NFL starter bodes well for him going into training camp. That's when the Broncos' quarterback competition is expected to heat up, and despite not having started a Week 1 game since 2012, Sanchez's veteran status gives him the early leg up on Lynch and Siemian.

Broncos' Mark Sanchez: Participates in OTAs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Sanchez (thumb) participated in seven-on-seven and positional drills on Tuesday, the team's official site reports

So much for Sanchez missing time following surgery on his non-throwing hand. Sanchez reportedly split time evenly between rookie Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian before stepping aside during team drills. By practicing, Sanchez gained some valuable time with his receivers and prevented his young competitors from getting too much of a leg up. Too big of a deal was likely made over the importance of Sanchez being ready for OTAs, but showing his new teammates and coaches that he is ready to push himself while injured can only help Sanchez as he strives for Denver's starting job.
