| Could the Raiders deal DMC?: The Contra Costa Times referred to Raiders RB Darren McFadden as their "best bargaining chip" this offseason and could consider moving him for the right price. The paper also speculated that it's "better than even money" that the Raiders will use the franchise tag on RB Michael Bush this offseason, fueling the idea that he could have a bigger role in the offense in 2012. McFadden rushed for 614 yards and caught 19 passes for 154 yards with five total touchdowns in seven starts last season but was sidelined for the season with a Lisfranc sprain in his foot. | McFadden has two years left on his contract at over $5 million per season, which would be a strike against him in the trade market as a new team might not be willing to pay a player with an injury history that much. And note that nothing official has been rumored or leaked by a team source, but it would make some sense for the Raiders to deal McFadden if a suitor did come along. There's no doubting McFadden's ability: He's averaged 88.5 rush yards and 33.0 receiving yards over his last 20 starts with 15 total touchdowns. But staying healthy is a major factor for him, and it's something Fantasy owners will have to consider with him regardless of where he winds up playing. It's OK to draft McFadden with a Top 24 pick, but in doing so you must also commit to drafting his backup as a handcuff for when (not if) McFadden gets hurt. If it's Bush in Oakland, that means using a sixth- or seventh-round pick, which certainly isn't ideal when we're talking about building a good Fantasy team. (Updated 01/25/2012). |
