Louisville's Rick Pitino sees transfer go to Minnesota's Richard Pitino
Reserve center Matz Stockman played only 4.1 minutes a game for the Cardinals last season
One Pitino's loss is another Pitino's gain. Louisville center Matz Stockman, who has been with Rick Pitino for three seasons, announced that he will transfer to Minnesota, which is coached by Richard Pitino, the Louisville coach's son.
"I've had a great time at Louisville the last three years," Stockman said in a statement. "I've learned a lot, gotten to know a great many people and have become very close with our coaches and players. I'm incredibly grateful to Coach Pitino, the coaching staff and for everyone involved around our team. However, I've been looking for an opportunity to play quality minutes for a long time now and I think this will be a great situation for me."
The 7-footer from Norway averaged only 1.7 points as a junior, and the opportunity for playing time never came for the slender center. He played no more than 6.2 minutes per game in his three seasons with the Cardinals and fell behind in the rotation of NBA quality big men. Perhaps the move will yield more playing time and a chance to showcase his talent at the highest level for the onetime three-star recruit.
