What you need to know about NC State

In-state rival UNC took the lead and never let it go in NC State's most recent game, which ended with a 100-80 loss to the Tar Heels last Saturday. Guard Terquavion Smith played well and finished with 34 points, which represented 42 percent of the Wolfpack's total offense. Dereon Seabron has been the most productive player on offense for NC State this season, but that wasn't the case against UNC, as he came away with just two points on a 1-for-6 night from the field.

One area where NC State has been effective has been on the offensive glass. The Wolfpack are third in the ACC in offensive rebounds, and for the season, have averaged 12.5 per game. That has translated into plenty of second chances on offense, but NC State has shot a relatively low 42.6 percent from the field as a team. Seabron is the team's leading rebounder on both ends of the floor, in addition to being its leading scorer, at 18.3 points per game.

What you need to know about Syracuse

Syracuse still has work to do to improve its place in the ACC standings, but the Orange got a shot in the arm after a dominating 94-72 win against Wake Forest over the weekend. Guard Buddy Boeheim shot 6-for-11 from beyond the arc and finished with 30 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Forward Cole Swider had one of his better games this season as well, with 18 points in 33 minutes of action.

Syracuse has scored more than 75 points in 12 games this season, but has one of college basketball's worst scoring defenses, and surrenders 75.1 points on average. However, the Orange take chances on defense, and snag a healthy 7.7 steals per game. Guard Joseph Girard III has been the most active player in that regard, with 1.7 swipes per start.
