Syracuse lands former Indiana signee Ron Patterson
Former Indiana signee Ron Patterson was forced to find another school when he didn't meet the school's academic standards. He found one on Saturday, committing to Syracuse on his visit.
When the July recruiting period ended, Syracuse was without a commitment for the class of 2013. Then coach Jim Boeheim went to work. Five-star Tyler Ennis popped in August, and then a couple of three-star frontcourt prospects committed last month in B.J. Johnson and Chinoso Obokoh.
On Saturday, former Indiana signee Ron Patterson became the fourth pledge in the Orange’s class.
The Brewster Academy (N.H.) product committed while on campus for his official visit. Xavier was heavily in the mix for Patterson, but Syracuse swooped in with an offer a few weeks ago and turned the tide in his recruitment.
Patterson was originally expected to be a member of Indiana’s 2012 class, but it emerged in August that he didn't meet the school’s academic standards.
The 6-foot-2 guard from Broad Ripple (Ind.) is a solid player who can do a little bit of everything. Patterson has a strong body and is good at getting to the rim. He also has the ability to knock down outside shots, albeit inconsistently.
Even with four commitments, Syracuse is far from done with the class of 2013. The Orange have their sights set on Jermaine Lawrence, Tyler Roberson, Rysheed Jordan, Noah Vonleh and others. Lawrence is likely to wait until the spring, but the Orange are in good shape with Jordan. Roberson has Syracuse in his final three, while Vonleh is still going through the process.
