Why TCU can cover

TCU is the nation's best offensive rebounding team. The Horned Frogs are grabbing nearly 39 percent of their own missed shots, and TCU is also leading the Big 12 in assist percentage at 58.1 percent. TCU is above-average in free throw creation and two-point accuracy on offense, and Texas has the worst free throw prevention mark in the conference. The Longhorns are also giving up nearly a 30 percent offensive rebound rate, opening the door for the Horned Frogs to maintain that clear edge.

TCU is in the top 30 of the country in defensive efficiency, including the Big 12's best defensive rebound rate at 74.4 percent. The Horned Frogs boast a block rate of 11.2 percent, with opponents shooting only 47 percent on two-point shots and 31.9 percent on 3-point shots. Texas is outside the top 200 nationally in 3-point accuracy at 32.8 percent, and more than 10 percent of shots have been blocked for the Longhorns during conference play.

Why Texas can cover

Texas has a potent offense, including impressive marks in offensive rebounding, free throw creation, and free throw accuracy. The Longhorns have a tremendous matchup on defense against TCU, however, and it begins with a top-10 mark in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency. Texas is also in the top 10 nationally in turnover creation, forcing a giveaway on 24.2 percent of possessions, and the Longhorns have a 12.7 percent steal rate, ranking in the top 20 of the country.

Texas is athletic and aggressive, as evidenced by a 10 percent block rate, and opponents are shooting only 46.6 percent on 2P attempts and 30.1 percent on 3P attempts against the Longhorns. TCU's offense also has clear flaws. The Horned Frogs are the worst team in the Big 12 when it comes to ball security, turning the ball over on more than 24 percent of possessions. TCU is also dead-last in the Big 12 in free throw accuracy at 63 percent, and the Horned Frogs are strongly below-average in 3P shooting and free throw creation rate among Big 12 teams.
