Knicks' Obi Toppin: Does it all in second start
Toppin accumulated 19 points (7-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal across 45 minutes during Sunday's 120-105 loss to the Raptors.
The Dayton product struggled in his first career start Friday when he totaled just five points and seven rebounds, however, Toppin flipped the script Sunday with a solid effort in the loss. The 6-foot-9 forward figures to see plenty of run going forward as Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel are all currently in the league's health and safety protocols. If Toppin continues to see 45 minutes for the time being, he remains a sneaky strong fantasy option.... See More ... See Less
Knicks' Obi Toppin: Making second straight start
Toppin will start at power forward in Sunday's game against the Raptors, Blake Murphy of The Athletic reports.
While stepping in for Julius Randle (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) for his first career start in Friday's 95-80 loss to the Thunder, Toppin underwhelmed with seven points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-6 FT), seven rebounds and one assist. The Knicks won't pull the plug on Toppin as a starter with Randle still sidelined Sunday, but Kevin Knox could cut into the former's minutes if he struggles again early on versus Toronto.... Knicks' Obi Toppin: Making first career start
Toppin will make his first career start Friday against the Thunder, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.
With Julius Randle in protocols, Toppin will see a bigger role. He has yet to play more than 28 minutes in a game this season, but in the eight contests that he's seen at least 20 minutes, he's averaged 12.6 points and 5.1 rebounds.... See More ... See Less
Knicks' Obi Toppin: Quiet in return from protocols
Toppin logged two points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and one assist across 13 minutes during Thursday's 124-117 loss to Washington.
The Knicks got Toppin back after he missed the last five games due to COVID-19 protocols, but the second-year forward made almost no impact Thursday, finishing with just one shot attempt in 13 minutes of action. Toppin was still getting his wind back after a nearly two-week layoff, so the hope is that he looks more like himself when the Knicks lay host to the Hawks on Christmas Day.... See More ... See Less
Knicks' Obi Toppin: Available against Wizards
Toppin (conditioning) is available for Thursday's game against the Wizards, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reports.
Toppin cleared the league's health and safety protocols Wednesday but had some conditioning concerns ahead of Thursday's matchup. He'll be able to suit up, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Knicks monitor his playing time during his first game back on the court. He averaged 11.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in 19.0 minutes per game in his five appearances prior to his absence.... See More ... See Less
Knicks' Obi Toppin: Uncertain to play Thursday
Toppin is uncertain to be available for Thursday's game against the Wizards while he works to regain conditioning following his recent stint in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reports.
Toppin exited the protocols Wednesday after an 11-day quarantine that caused him to miss five games. Since he hasn't been able to perform basketball activities during that time, the Knicks may be reluctant to turn to him for major minutes Thursday, even if he experienced minimal symptoms of the virus. Toppin has served as the primary backup for starting power forward Julius Randle this season, averaging 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 15.9 minutes per contest over 26 appearances.... Knicks' Obi Toppin: Subtly good
Toppin recorded eight points (4-6 FG), four rebounds, one assist and two steals across 19 minutes during Thursday's 119-115 loss to the Bulls.
Toppin has connected on over 50 percent of his shots in five of his last six games. The Knicks have been running a seven man rotation at times, signifying an opportunity to Toppin to perform. However, he's little more than a dynasty stash for now.... See More ... See Less
Knicks' Obi Toppin: Ready to go Sunday
Toppin (leg) is available for Sunday's game against the Bulls.
Toppin was forced to the locker room in second quarter of Saturday's 106-99 win over the Rockets, but he was able to check back in later in the contest and finished with six points (1-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds and one assist. He looks like he'll be good to go for the second half of the back-to-back set, and Toppin could be thrust into a larger role in the frontcourt with Mitchell Robinson (concussion) sitting out and Taj Gibson (groin) listed as questionable for Sunday's contest.... Knicks' Obi Toppin: Excels off bench
Toppin tallied 14 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 3Pt), five rebounds, two assists and a block in Wednesday's 104-98 loss to the Magic.
Toppin has provided some spark off the bench in recent weeks having scored double-digit points in three of the last six outings despite averaging just 15 minutes over that stretch. The 2020 first-round pick has been an obvious disappointment, but with a rotation heavily reliant on Alec Burks and Derrick Rose to provide points off the bench, Toppin could by default be asked to perform a similar role among New York's bench forwards.... Knicks' Obi Toppin: Active off bench
Toppin was impressive again off the bench in the Knicks' 121-96 victory over Orlando on Friday by producing 13 points (5-8 FG, 2-4 3PT, 1-5 FT), two rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block across 23 minutes.
Toppin, selected by the Knicks in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft, had a hard time cracking the rotation as a rookie. However, he looks to be carving out a nice role for himself off the banch following two solid games out the gate to kick off the season. He looks like he will be a key cog on the team's second unit and should continue to provide depth in the frontcourt behind Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle.... See More ... See Less
Knicks' Obi Toppin: Scores 14 off bench
Toppin recorded 14 points (6-9 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-3 FT), five rebounds and a block in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 138-134 win over Boston.
Toppin continued to come off the bench after he played a depth role in each of his appearances last year, but he led the Knicks' bench players in minutes during Wednesday's opener. The 23-year-old had a strong start to the 2021-22 campaign as he attempts to build on his rookie season in which he averaged 4.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11.0 minutes per game.... See More ...
