College football scores, rankings, highlights in Week 10: Oklahoma downs Tennessee in CFP eliminator

Week 10 of the 2025 college football season featured three ranked-on-ranked matchups that could loom large in the College Football Playoff race. None was bigger than No. 18 Oklahoma's clash with No. 14 Tennessee -- a battle between SEC foes that served as a de facto elimination game as the calendar flips to November.

The Sooners started slow on the road but flipped the switch in the second half to pull out a 33-27 win. With three losses now on its résumé, Tennessee chances of returning to the CFP are on life support. The Vols still have games remaining against New Mexico State, Florida and Vanderbilt.

Oklahoma's path doesn't get any easier. The Sooners close the season against Alabama, Missouri and LSU, and with losses to Texas and Ole Miss already on the ledger, there's little margin for error down the stretch.

Elsewhere in the SEC, No. 20 Texas kept its CFP hopes alive with a statement 34-31 win over No. 9 Vanderbilt, while No. 5 Georgia held on for a 24-20 victory over Florida to remain in the mix for the league crown.

One of the day's biggest losers was No. 10 Miami. The Hurricanes dropped their second straight ACC game, falling 26-20 at SMU. With a 2-2 record in conference play, Miami will have to win out and get help to reach the ACC title game. Georgia Tech, one of two ACC teams unbeaten in league play entering the weekend, was upset 48-36 by NC State.

Coming into the season, one of the most anticipated games on the calendar was Ohio State–Penn State. But a lot has changed since then. Penn State fired coach James Franklin and now faces the prospect of missing a bowl entirely after a 38-14 loss to No. 1 Ohio State.

No. 18 Oklahoma gets a huge road win in Neyland Stadium

FINAL: No. 18 Oklahoma 33, No. 14 Tennessee 27

Tennessee's costly first-half mistakes came back to cost them in the second half. John Mateer and the Oklahoma offense got rolling in the second half, and the defense bowed up after giving up substantial yardage in the first two quarters.

The Sooners gave Joey Aguilar fist for most of the game, but especially in the first half. They picked him off twice and forced a scoop and score with Tennessee driving in Oklahoma territory. Because of that, the Sooners were able to hang around and take a lead into halftime despite a lackluster offensive showing.

In the second half, Oklahoma got rolling on the offensive side of the ball, and that was all she wrote. John Mateer looked more like his pre-injury self, especially in the running game. He totaled 80 rushing yards, and Oklahoma went for 195 as a team on the ground. Kicker Tate Sandell deserves a big hat tip as well as he connected on all four field goal attempts.

Now, Oklahoma's playoff hopes are still very much alive. The Sooners will now get a bye week before going on the road for a massive tilt against No. 4 Alabama.

Oklahoma makes it a two-score game

4Q: No. 18 Oklahoma 26, No. 14 Tennessee 17

Tennessee's defense is able to hold Oklahoma to a field goal attempt, but Tate Sandell has been money for the Sooners tonight. He is 4-for-4 on field goals, and he's connected from 41 yards, 51 yards and 55 yards twice. Sandell has been a big difference-maker in this game, especially because Tennessee kicker Max Gilbert missed a 37-yard attempt in the first half. If the Sooners hold on, Sandell will be a major reason why.

USC beats Nebraska

FINAL: No. 23 USC 21, Nebraska 17

It came down to the final defensive stand because, of course, it did. USC was able to stop Nebraska on fourth-and-1 in the final two minutes to secure a 21-17 win over the Cornhuskers. USC found success running the football and racked up 205 yards on the ground on 36 carries. USC quarterback Jayden Maiava only completed nine passes for 135 yards, but it didn't matter.

Notably, Nebraska star quarterback Dylan Raiola exited the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury. He did not return.

Oklahoma grabs a late third-quarter lead

3Q: No. 18 Oklahoma 23, No. 14 Tennessee 17

For the first time in this game, the Oklahoma offense has found the end zone. After the Oklahoma defense forced a fumble, the offense drove down the field for a five-play, 51-yard touchdown drive.

John Mateer looked as comfortable as he has all night, and that was clear on a throw down the sideline to star receiver Isaiah Sategna. Mateer also used his legs well on the drive, and he is heating up. If the Sooners can get him playing near his peak once again, that bodes very well for their chances in this one.

Tennessee's offense will try to respond once again, and this is setting up to be a classic finish in Knoxville.

Ole Miss handles South Carolina with late flurry

FINAL: No. 7 Ole Miss 30, South Carolina 14

The Rebels sacked LaNorris Sellers several times in the fourth quarter and limited the Gamecocks to just 230 yards of total offense to improve to 8-1 for the third time in the last four seasons under Lane Kiffin. More importantly, Ole Miss is now a couple wins away from its first playoff appearance in program history. The dagger for the Rebels came with 5:44 to play on a 54-yard breakaway touchdown run from Kewan Lacy. He rushed for 167 on a sputtering night for a usually explosive offense, but Ole Miss put away the Gamecocks with ease after Sellers had pulled his team within three points in the third quarter.

Tennessee's defense finds its big play

3Q: No. 14 Tennessee 17, No. 18 Oklahoma 16

The Oklahoma defense made three huge plays to take the ball away from Tennessee in the first half, and the Vols have repaid the favor now. With Oklahoma driving to take the lead, Tennessee safety Edrees Farooq punched the ball out as Xavier Robinson was trying to pick up some extra yardage in the red zone.

Oklahoma's offense has had trouble moving the ball most of the night. Once they finally got into a groove, they coughed it up. This is yet another opportunity for Tennessee to take full control of this game, which it hasn't been able to do to this point.

Michigan survives upset bid from Purdue

FINAL: No. 21 Michigan 21, Purdue 16

It wasn't pretty, but No. 21 Michigan survived an upset bid from Purdue and escaped with a 21-16 win. The Wolverines relied heavily on their ground attack, and it paid off. Michigan racked up 255 rushing yards -- headlined by 185 of them coming from Jordan Marshall -- to pace the offense. Michigan is now 7-2 (5-1 in Big Ten) ahead of games against Northwestern, Maryland and No. 1 Ohio State.

Braylon Staley goes 54 yards to the house

3Q: No. 14 Tennessee 17, No. 18 Oklahoma 16

After the Vols defense got a stop to start the second half, their offense got a badly needed explosive touchdown. Just trying to move the chains on third-and-8, Joey Aguilar found Braylon Staley breaking toward the sideline. Staley made the catch near the sticks, broke a couple tackles and was off to the races.

Staley accelerated up the sideline and no one caught him as he found the end zone to give Tennessee the lead once again. Staley is now up to 75 receptions and a pair of touchdowns with a lot of game left. Given how much the Vols left on the table in the first half, that was a great start to the second half.

Nebraska star quarterback Dylan Raiola exits with ankle injury

Nebraska star quarterback Dylan Raiola exited in the third quarter of Saturday's game against USC and did not return on his team's next offensive possession. Raiola appeared to suffer an ankle injury on the play where he was sacked -- which led to a fumble recovery by USC.

Raiola's backup, TJ Lateef, a former three-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle by 247Sports, replaced Raiola. Before exiting the game, Raiola completed 10 of 15 attempts for 91 yards and a touchdown. The Cornhuskers opened the game with an impressive 14-play drive that was capped with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Raiola to Dane Key.

Here is the play in which Raiola suffered the injury.

Oklahoma leads at halftime in Knoxville

Halftime: No. 18 Oklahoma 16, No. 14 Tennessee 10

Tennessee has outgained Oklahoma by 156 yards, and the Volunteers have run twice as many plays. Yet, the Sooners will take a six-point lead into the locker room, and they get the ball to start the second half.

The story of this game so far has been Joey Aguilar's turnover issues. With two interceptions and a fumble lost, Aguilar is keeping Oklahoma in the game. Since transferring to Tennessee, Aguilar has cleaned up his decision-making, but the erratic gunslinger that most saw at Appalachian State has made an appearance tonight.

The silver lining for the Volunteers is that they have moved the ball on a stout Sooners defense, but it's resulted in just 10 points. Tennessee's defense has held up its end of the bargain, but how long will that continue before Oklahoma breaks through and finds the end zone?

South Carolina hanging around at Ole Miss

LATE 3Q: No. 7 Ole Miss 20, South Carolina 14

Hoping to avoid a colossal upset loss, the Rebels are trying to fight off the pesky Gamecocks nearing the fourth quarter in Oxford. LaNorris Sellers connected with Nyck Harbor on a 47-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to pull South Carolina within three points before a field goal gave the Rebels some breathing room. Lane Kiffin was noticeably upset after his offense stalled in the red zone midway through the quarter for a second time, leading to the kick.

Another turnover forced by Oklahoma

2Q: No. 14 Tennessee 10, No. 18 Oklahoma 10

On yet another drive in which Tennessee was moving the ball well, it has zero points to show for it. With the Volunteers at the Sooners' 36-yard line, Aguilar got little too greedy looking for six points. He threw a ball up into double coverage right at the goal line, and it got intercepted by Peyton Bowen.

Bowen returned the pick 37 yards to the Oklahoma 41-yard line, and the Sooners are in business. After how this first half has gone, if Oklahoma can hit the locker room with a lead, it would be a major win. The Volunteers have to be kicking themselves over these missed opportunities, but we'll see if Oklahoma can capitalize.

NC State leads 24-17 over undefeated Georgia Tech at the half

No. 8 Georgia Tech finds itself in a battle on the road once again, trailing NC State 24-17 at the half in Raleigh. The Wolfpack are getting a spectacular game out of quarterback CJ Bailey, as he's got 215 yards passing and a touchdown and added 28 yards and a touchdown on the ground to put NC State on top at the half.

The Yellow Jackets defense has not had an answer for him yet, and the Wolfpack are getting whatever they want on offense so far with 296 total yards at halftime. Offense hasn't been too much of an issue for Georgia Tech, as Haynes King has 125 yards and a touchdown passing and 61 yards and a touchdown rushing, but they need the defense to figure out how to get some stops.

The Wolfpack have played in shootout games most of the season so they will be comfortable in a high-scoring affair, but there is a little concern for NC State's offense going into halftime. Bailey left the field limping at the very end of the half as they kicked a late field goal and was hobbling going to the locker room. He did run off the field on his own but clearly was in some discomfort, and it'll be worth monitoring how he looks coming out of halftime given how spectacular he was in the first half.

Nebraska holds halftime lead vs. No. 23 USC

Half: Nebraska 14, No. 23 USC 6

Nebraska came out strong with the Blackshirts and blackout crowd, forcing a quick three-and-out on defense before a long 14-play, 75-yard drive that kept the USC defense on the field for 7:01, culminating in Dylan Raiola finding Dane Key in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown.

USC had a chance to tie with a fourth-and-goal from the 2, but a false start pushed them back, forcing a field goal attempt instead.

The Cornhuskers' defense struggled to stop the run, giving up 121 yards on 17 carries with King Miller averaging 9.1 yards per attempt. The passing game also had issues, with Jayden Maiava completing just 6 of 16 passes for 57 yards.

Nebraska put together another long touchdown drive late in the second quarter, with Emmett Johnson punching it in from 10 yards out after a defensive pass interference penalty on USC extended the drive.

Nebraska gets the ball to start the second half.

Tennessee comes up empty

2Q: No. 14 Tennessee 10, No. 18 Oklahoma 7

Following an 11-play drive that covered 61 yards and chewed 4:40 off the clock, Tennessee comes away empty-handed after Max Gilbert hooks a 37-yard field goals attempt to the left. The Volunteers are dominating the game in terms of yardage and time of possession, but they have just a three-point lead to show for it.

The Sooners have a great opportunity to get some life on their next offensive possession. After being on the ropes for most of the game to this point, a touchdown would give them the lead. Can John Mateer and Co. get rolling and take advantage of some timely plays by their defense?

Injuries in the trenches for OU, Tennessee

1Q: No. 14 Tennessee 10, No. 18 Oklahoma 7

The Sooners and Vols have each suffered big losses in the trenches already. After his 71-yard scoop and score, Oklahoma defensive lineman R Mason Thomas entered the injury tent with a hamstring injury, according to the ABC broadcast. He did return for the next Tennessee possession, which resulted in a Max Gilbert field goal.

Thomas has been extremely disruptive for Brent Venables' defense, recording 5.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss in the first eight games.

On that Vols possession, five-star freshman right tackle David Sanders Jr. left the game with what appeared to be an ankle injury. He got rolled up on, and his ankle got twisted up with an Oklahoma defender. Sanders walked off the field with some assistance and a noticeable limp.

Update: After evaluation, Sanders was able to return on Tennessee's next drive.

No. 21 Michigan ahead over Purdue at half

HALF: No. 21 Michigan 14, Purdue 7

It hasn't been exactly pretty, but No. 21 Michigan will take a 14-7 lead over Purdue into the locker room. Michigan running back Jordan Marshall scored a touchdown with 17 seconds remaining in the second quarter to give his team the lead back. Marshall also had a 54-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Wolverines are playing without star running back Justice Haynes, which is opening the door for Marshall to be the lead back.

Rebels winning sloppy against Gamecocks

HALF: No. 7 Ole Miss 17, South Carolina 7

The Rebels lead the Gamecocks thanks to a touchdown pass and touchdown rush from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who helped Ole Miss convert three fourth-down tries in four attempts during the opening half. The two teams are a combined 1-of-11 on third down and South Carolina's lone touchdown came a few plays after the Rebels muffed a punt early in the first quarter. In the thick of the College Football Playoff picture, Ole Miss bounced back from its first loss of the season at Georgia last month with a nationally-ranked win at Oklahoma in Week 9 — Kiffin's first road victory over a ranked opponent during his tenure.

Oklahoma's defense gets a big play

1Q: No. 14 Tennessee 7, No. 18 Oklahoma 7

With the Sooners' offense lagging of late, the defense needed a big play, and it got one. Tennessee was deep in Oklahoma territory and looking to double its early lead when Owen Heinecke leveled Aguilar on a blitz and forced a fumble. Oklahoma defensive lineman R Mason Thomas scooped up the loose ball, broke a couple tackles and rumbled for 71 yards to the end zone.

The bad news for Oklahoma is that Thomas had to be helped off the field by his teammates after the play. It looks as though he may have suffered a leg injury on the return, so his status will have to be monitored. If Thomas can't return, it would be a big loss for the Oklahoma defense.

Vols draw first blood

1Q: No. 14 Tennessee 7, No. 18 Oklahoma 0

Tennessee got the ball first, and the drive got off to an ominous start when the ball slipped out of Joey Aguilar's hand on the first play. He was able to jump on it, and the Vols were bailed out by a defensive pass interference flag a couple plays later.

After that, the Tennessee offense got rolling, and receiver Mike Matthews created an explosive play with a 37-yard catch-and-run on a screen pass. That got the Volunteers into the red zone, and Aguilar finished the drive with a 5-yard strike to Braylon Staley in the end zone.

It was another fast start for this Tennessee offense, and that puts some early pressure on John Mateer and Oklahoma to respond.

No. 15 Virginia survives upset bid from Cal

FINAL: No. 15 Virginia 31, Cal 21

No. 15 Virginia improved to 8-1 with a dramatic 31-21 win over Cal. After the Golden Bears stopped the Cavaliers on fourth-and-short, linebacker Kam Robinson made a huge defensive play to seal the game. Robinson intercepted the pass and returned it 35 yards the other way to seal the win. UVA is now 5-0 in ACC play.

FCS No. 1 North Dakota State finds spark with 100-yard KO return

Reigning FCS national champion and current No. 1 North Dakota State survived a shootout with No. 19 Youngstown State on Saturday in Fargo, coming away with a 38-30 win. A 100-yard kickoff return late in the second quarter by sophomore receiver Jackson Williams helped the Bison maintain their lead. Williams fielded the kick in the end zone, cut left, broke three tackles and bulldozed over kicker Josh Wilkins before sprinting down the sideline. The return put North Dakota State up 28-17 at the time.

The Bison improved to 9-0 on the season and clear front-runner to earn their 11th FBS title in 15 years.

Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love breaks off 94-yard TD run

4Q: No. 12 Notre Dame 25, Boston College 10

The Irish expected to roll in Chestnut Hill on Saturday as four-touchdown favorites, but kicking woes, turnovers and other miscues had them in a tight battle with Boston College going into the fourth quarter -- until Jeremiyah Love saved the day.

Leading 18-10, the Eagles had the ball and were driving into the red zone before an interception on the ND 6 stopped their progress in trying to tie the game. On the first play after that, Love broke through the middle of the line and took it 94 yards to the house to allow Notre Dame fans to breathe a little easier.

That touchdown finally gave the Irish a cushion they'd been unable to produce all game, and alleviated concerns of a dreadful upset loss. However, the Irish are in a position where they need not only wins but style points to impress the College Football Playoff committee, who could dock them for sloppy play on the road.

Louisville comes back, avoids letdown at Virginia Tech

FINAL: No. 16 Louisville 28, Virginia Tech 16

Louisville trailed by two scores at the half but flipped the script to win by two possessions. The Cardinals dominated the second half and won the final two quarters 21-0 to avoid an upset at the hands of Virginia Tech. Isaac Brown ran for 126 yards and a touchdown, and after he left with an injury, Keyjuan Brown tacked on another 83 rushing yards and two scores.

The latter Brown scored a dagger of a touchdown when he broke loose from 24 yards out to put the game on ice.

It was imperative for the Cardinals to avoid a surprise letdown against the Hokies in their search for an ACC title. The road to the conference championship game became a bit clearer this week with Miami suffering a second loss, but there is still work ahead for Jeff Brohm's team as both Georgia Tech and Virginia remain unbeaten in league play.

Notre Dame on upset alert?

HALF: No. 12 Notre Dame 12, Boston College 7

Notre Dame once again finds itself off to a slow start in the first half against an unranked opponent. Last month, Notre Dame was ahead 10-7 at halftime over NC State before scoring 26 unanswered points after halftime to pull away. It may happen again, but the Fighting Irish will need to eliminate their mistakes. During the first half alone, Notre Dame turned it over on downs, missed a PAT, didn't convert a 2-point conversion and missed a field goal.

Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr has completed 13 of 18 attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns.

Indiana leading at Maryland despite not having its A-game

Halftime: No. 2 Indiana 20, Maryland 3

The No. 2 team in the country has not looked particularly sharp in College Park, but that hasn't mattered too much as the Hoosiers have a 17-point lead at the break over Maryland. The Terps took a 3-0 lead after a Fernando Mendoza interception gave them the ball in plus territory, but that was about the last good thing to happen for Maryland.

Indiana took the lead back on a 93-yard march, Malik Washington tossed a pair of interceptions and despite the Hoosiers not looking as sharp as we've grown accustomed to seeing them against lesser competition, they're still comfortably ahead.

Mendoza is 10-for-17 for 159 yards and this touchdown pass to Omar Cooper Jr., and has the other Indiana touchdown on the ground.

Maryland's been totally unable to get anything going on the ground, rushing for two yards in the first half. And after finding a bit of early success through the air, Indiana's defense has started to cause problems for Washington through the air as well.

The Terps will have an uphill climb ahead of them in the second half, as Curt Cignetti will have plenty to demand from his guys in the locker room despite their 17-point advantage. They'll look to put the pedal down in the third quarter and put this game to rest.

Michigan star RB out vs. Purdue

Michigan will be without star running back Justice Haynes (undisclosed) for Saturday's matchup against Purdue, per the Big Ten injury report. The Alabama transfer has had an incredible season for the Wolverines. Haynes has rushed for 857 yards and 10 touchdowns on only 121 attempts.  In his last appearance against Michigan State, Haynes ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Jeff Sims leads Arizona State to an upset win in Ames

Despite losing Sam Leavitt to a season-ending injury, Arizona State found a way to pick up a huge road win against Iowa State on Saturday. Journeyman quarterback Jeff Sims got his second start of the season for the Sun Devils and put up a monster performance, throwing for 171 yards, one touchdown and one interception, but did most of his damage on the ground with 228 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries -- including this 88-yard TD run that ended up being the decisive play in the game.

Iowa State had some miscues that were costly, including a botched snap on a game-tying extra point attempt just prior to Sims' long touchdown run, but the biggest came on fourth down on its final drive when star receiver Chase Sowell fell down after a catch just shy of the sticks for a turnover on downs.

With the win, Arizona State keeps some hope alive for another trip to the Big 12 title game at 4-2 in conference play. ASU will need some help to get there, and received some earlier in the day when Houston was upset by West Virginia. Leavitt's injury caused most to write off the Sun Devils as a threat, but they showed an ability to adapt to Sims' skillset as a runner on Saturday and pulled out an impressive road win.

Iowa State, meanwhile, has lost its last four games after a 5-0 start and is no longer part of the Big 12 title picture.

Virginia Tech puts Louisville on upset alert at halftime

HALF: Virginia Tech 16, No. 16 Louisville 7

The ACC already saw one of its ranked teams go down today when No. 10 Miami fell in overtime at SMU, and No. 16 Louisville is in trouble, too. The Cardinals trail by two scores on the road at Virginia Tech and have not scored since their opening possession.

Outside of a 52-yard touchdown run from Isaac Brown, Louisville has not been able to get anything going offensively. Miller Moss is just 8-for-14 for 40 yards with an interception. The Cardinals also ceded points on a safety after they had a punt blocked.

Virginia Tech continues to show signs of life in the wake of the Brent Pry firing. If the Hokies can bring the upset home, it would be their second win in as many weeks. After starting the season with three consecutive losses, they are 3-2 since the coaching change.

SMU completes upset of Miami

Final: SMU 26, No. 10 Miami 20

Another week, another unranked loss for Mario Cristobal's Miami Hurricanes. This one came in particularly heartbreaking fashion, as Miami held a 20-17 lead for a majority of the fourth quarter -- with a few chances to extend it -- before SMU stole momentum. The Mustangs forced overtime thanks to a 38-yard kick from Sam Keltner, who missed another game-tying field goal earlier in the fourth quarter.

And then SMU's defense took over. Miami was moving the ball well on its first overtime possession but, on third-and-6 from SMU's seven-yard line, quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception right to SMU defensive back Ahmaad Moses.

That allowed SMU to run the ball, play possession and finish in the end zone courtesy of a one-yard touchdown from running back T.J. Harden. This is SMU's first home win against an AP top 10 team since 1974.
