LSU reportedly paying New Mexico $1.6 million for 2022 game in Baton Rouge
The Lobos will be a nonconference opponent for the Tigers in a few years
LSU will reportedly pay New Mexico $1.6 million for a nonconference game in Baton Rouge during the 2022 football season.
FBSchedules.com broke the news of the 2022 schedule addition for both teams, noting that an open records request revealed that the cost of this particular SEC-Mountain West game was $1.6 million.
According to USA Today's Steve Berkowitz, around $150 million changed hands on guarantee games during the 2017 season. It's likely that this game, set for Sept. 10, 2022, has its total set with the idea that the price set for these nonconference visits is going to continue to rise in the coming years.
As for the LSU-New Mexico matchup it will be the first time these two programs have met on the football field unless they meet in a College Football Playoff or the SEC and Mountain West bowl arrangement in the next four years.
