Pitt WR Tyler Boyd receives probation after DUI charge, rejoins team
Pitt star wideout Tyler Boyd is back with the Panthers after a suspension and will serve 12 months of judge-ordered probation.

A judge has ordered Pitt star wide receiver Tyler Boyd to a year's worth of probation as part of a program for first-time DUI offenders, the Tribune-Review reported Friday.
The 20-year-old Boyd was formally charged with DUI on June 16, a few days after being pulled over for a 2:35 a.m. traffic stop with what the reporting officer described as the smell of alcohol on Boyd's breath. In addition to the probation, Boyd must also take driving safety classes, and his driver's license will be suspended for 90 days.
If he completes the program without further incident, Boyd can petition to have the charge withdrawn and the case expunged.
Pitt first-year coach Pat Narduzzi revealed this week that Boyd had been suspended from the team for approximately a month following the incident, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. He has since been allowed to rejoin the team's summer workouts and meetings, though Narduzzi did not rule out the possibility of Boyd being barred from one of the Panthers' games this fall.
“I told him there will still be choices I’ve got to make as far as what we’ll do,” Narduzzi said. “That’ll be determined. It’ll be a family issue and we’ll deal with it internally.”
After finishing the 2014 season with 78 catches for 1,261 yards, Boyd is the first-ever ACC player to top 1,000 yards receiving as both a freshman and sophomore. A first-team All-ACC receiver and second-teamer as a return specialist, Boyd is expected to contend for All-American honors in his junior season before becoming a high selection in the 2016 NFL draft.
Pitt opens its season Sept. 5 against FCS Youngstown State.
