San Diego State's Donnel Pumphrey passes Ricky Williams to No. 3 on rushing list
Pumphrey moves past former Texas running back Ricky Williams
San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey continued to make history on Saturday night.
Pumphrey rushed for 110 yards on 25 carries in San Diego State's 27-24 win over Wyoming in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game.
The 110 yards gives Pumphrey 6,290 for his career, moving him past USC's Charles White (6245 yards) and Texas' Ricky Williams (6,279 yards).
The only two names remaining in front of Pumphrey are Wisconsin's Ron Dayne and Pittsburgh's Tony Dorsett.
While Dayne's career mark of 7,125 career rushing yards is out of reach barring one of the most amazing games ever imagined, Pumphrey will enter San Diego State's bowl game trailing Dorsett's 6,526 yards by 236 yards.
It won't be easy to catch him, but it's not impossible. After all, Pumphrey has rushed for at least 200 yards in four games this season, and finished a fifth with 198.
