South Carolina inks 7th-most valuable apparel deal with Under Armour
South Carolina's new deal with Under Armour covers 10 years and earns the Gamecocks $71.5 million.

South Carolina's new deal with Under Armour is quite a bit more lucrative than the school's last. The Gamecocks originally signed a six-year, $6.2 deal with the apparel company that ends in June.
The new deal will keep South Carolina in Under Armour gear for the next 10 years and is worth $71.5 million -- $950,000 more annually than the school received over the entirety of its previous deal.
“I’m very pleased with where we are with Under Armour and the relationship with (CEO) Kevin Plank and his staff,” athletics director Ray Tanner said. “It’s more to me than just a company that we partner with. We have been with them quite a while and he and his staff feel like part of our family.”
According to school officials, the deal is the second-most valuable in the SEC and seventh-most in the entire nation, which is pretty good considering this is South Carolina and not a much more recognisable SEC brand like Georgia or Florida.
So why would South Carolina get so much? Well, it could be the fact that of the 14 SEC schools, 10 of them are signed with Nike. The only other SEC school with an Under Armour deal is Auburn, so it's possible the company was willing to shell out a bit more to South Carolina just to expand its visibility in the country's most popular college football conference.
