Johnson (rest) won't play in Monday's preseason game against the Thunder, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
Johnson and most of Atlanta's regulars won't suit up for the penultimate preseason contest. Johnson tallied 20 points (8-12 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), seven rebounds and three assists over 25 minutes in Saturday's 119-117 preseason win over the Pacers.

Johnson tallied 20 points (8-12 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), seven rebounds and three assists over 25 minutes in Saturday's 119-117 preseason win over the Pacers.
Johnson got his points efficiently, did a nice job attacking the glass and finished with a plus-8 differential in the win. He was a top-20 player last season with averages of 22.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 7.9 dimes, 1.7 triples and 1.2 steals per game, and he should be even better as he enters his age-25 season.

Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Starting Saturday
Johnson (rest) will start in Saturday's exhibition against the Pacers, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official site reports.
Johnson skipped Thursday's 123-116 preseason loss to the Spurs for maintenance purposes, but he'll be back in action Saturday night. Aaron Wiggins will shift back to the second unit with Johnson active.

Johnson recorded eight points (1-7 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT), five rebounds, three assists and one steal in 18 minutes during Monday's preseason loss to Memphis.
Johnson struggled with his shot but was perfect from the charity stripe before Atlanta shut down most of its starters in the second half. The 24-year-old remains one of the Hawks' primary offensive options and should continue providing strong all-around production during the regular season.

Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Looking to make another leap
Hawks president of basketball operations Onsi Saleh said Johnson has "multiple levels he can raise his game to" as the forward continues his development, Malik Brown of ClutchPoints.com reports.
"Jalen's really hard on himself, and we're hard on Jalen because we think he has multiple levels he can raise his game to," Saleh said. The comments suggest Atlanta will continue pushing Johnson to expand his game, and he's up for the challenge. Look for Atlanta's franchise player to be heavily involved on both ends of the court this season.

Johnson could be working with a more traditional point guard more often after the Hawks drafted Kingston Flemings with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Johnson thrived during a year of transition for a Hawks team that traded away franchise cornerstone Trae Young midseason, serving as Atlanta's de facto point guard. Across 72 regular-season contests, the star forward averaged a career-high 22.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.7 three-pointers in 35.2 minutes per game. It's hard to envision Flemings cutting into Johnson's ball-handling duties significantly right away, even though none of CJ McCollum, Dyson Daniels or Nickeil Alexander-Walker profile as true floor generals, so Johnson should continue to operate as Atlanta's top playmaker in 2026-27.

The Hawks committed to the young star as their franchise player by trading away Trae Young, and Johnson put together a sensational breakout season. Across 72 regular-season contests, he compiled averages of 22.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.7 three-pointers in 35.2 minutes per game.

Johnson finished Tuesday's 126-97 loss to the Knicks in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with 18 points (7-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds, six assists and two steals across 35 minutes.
Johnson struggled from three-point range Tuesday and is now shooting just 26.9 percent from downtown through five first-round games. Still, the star forward led Atlanta in points, rebounds, assists and steals after a lackluster Game 4 in which he had just 14 points, five assists and three rebounds. Johnson and the Hawks will turn their focus to Thursday's Game 6, when they'll look to stave off elimination at home.

Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Secures double-double
Johnson closed Thursday's 109-108 victory over the Knicks in Game 3 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with 24 points (8-19 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 6-10 FT), 10 rebounds, eight assists, one block and two steals across 38 minutes.
Johnson turned in an impressive all-around performance and flirted with a triple-double on the way to a win. He hasn't been nearly as efficient from the field during the first round as he was in the regular season (48.9 percent in 72 games), but he's still managed to do enough to lead Atlanta to a 2-1 series lead. Johnson will continue to be relied on heavily in the scoring column and on the glass as the playoffs push on.
