Wynns cleared waivers Friday and elected to become a free agent, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Wynns was designated for assignment by the Giants on Monday as fellow catcher Joey Bart returned from a back injury. Wynns, 32, holds a career .230/.274/.335 batting line in 181 games at the major-league level.
