Friedrich was released by the White Sox earlier this month, Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America reports.
After spending time in the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball as well as the Korea Baseball Organization in 2019, Friedrich returned to affiliated ball this spring, joining Chicago on a minor-league deal. He was expected to serve as a depth starter at the Triple-A or Double-A level, but the likely cancelation of the 2020 minor-league season will result in the White Sox cutting ties with him entirely.
