Giants' Jake Peavy: Lands on DL with back strain

Peavy (lower back strain) was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday retroactive to Aug. 21.

Albert Suarez was recalled in a corresponding move and will toe the rubber Saturday opposite Braves right-hander Mike Foltynewicz. Peavy has been wholly ineffective in 29 appearances this season, posting a 5.55 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, and he figures to return to the bullpen assuming he makes it back this season. A return timetable was not immediately provided but he will be eligible to return as soon as Sept. 5.
