Nationals' Luis Avilan: Beginning rehab assignment

Avilan (elbow) reported to High-A Wilmington on Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.

The veteran left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in April of 2021 and has now been cleared for game action. Avilan re-signed with the Nationals on a minor-league deal during the offseason and figure to report to Triple-A Rochester once fully healthy.
