Mahtook is a candidate to be recalled by the Rays after center fielder Kevin Kiermaier suffered a broken hand Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The 26-year-old outfielder has been off to an excellent start at Triple-A Durham this season, slashing .316/.402/.474 over 76 at-bats. His previous major league experience makes him a logical potential replacement while Kiermaier is sidelined. That said, no move has been made official at this point, so Desmond Jennings will likely take over in center field in the interim.
