  • Kim went 2-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and a strikeout in Thursday's 8-3 loss to the Dodgers. Kim got San Diego on the board with his second-inning shot to left off Los Angeles starter Tony Gonsolin and later knocked a ground-rule double in the sixth. The long ball is the 25-year-old's second in his last four games and Kim finishes September batting 6-for-23 with two doubles and the two homers, though that total came in just 11 games.

  • Kim went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in Thursday's 7-6 victory over San Francisco. Kim entered the day mired in a 5-for-38 skid over his last 28 games, but he produced an RBI single in the first inning and added a solo homer in the sixth. It was both Kim's first homer and first multi-hit performance since Aug. 1. He's hitting just .206/.273/.347 with seven home runs and five stolen bases (six attempts) in 277 plate appearances this season.

  • Kim isn't starting Saturday's game against the Dodgers. Kim is likely in line for increased playing time since Jake Cronenworth is dealing with a fracture on his left ring finger, but he'll remain out of the lineup Saturday. Fernando Tatis will shift to shortstop while Tommy Pham starts in left field.

  • Kim isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks. Kim has gone 3-for-9 with a home run, a double, three runs and three RBI across his last four appearances, but he'll be out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. Jake Cronenworth will shift to shortstop while Eric Hosmer remains at first base. Expect the Padres to proceed with Cronenworth rather than Kim as the team's primary option at shortstop while Fernando Tatis (shoulder) remains without a timeline to return from the injured list.
