Brewers' Bo Naylor: Making Brewers debut

Naylor is starting behind the plate and batting ninth Sunday against the Reds.

The 26-year-old was called up to Milwaukee when rosters expanded Tuesday, and he'll finally make his Brewers debut after being acquired from the Guardians at the trade deadline. Naylor posted a .143/.200/.238 slash line in 90 plate appearances to begin the season for Cleveland before being demoted, but he was more productive at Triple-A Nashville after the trade with four homers and a .903 OPS in 14 games.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Resting up Sunday

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.

Contreras started the previous six games and will get a breather Sunday after going 7-for-25 (.280) with four doubles, a homer, four RBI and six runs during that stretch. He has a 1.011 OPS with 11 extra-base hits in his past 18 contests. Bo Naylor will make his Brewers debut in the series finale at Cincinnati in Contreras' place.

  • Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Slated for imaging

Rushing is scheduled to undergo imaging on his injured right elbow Sunday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Rushing was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup versus Washington after experiencing right elbow discomfort during an on-field throwing session. The backstop has been limited to DH and pinch-hit duties since returning from the IL on Sept. 1, but now even his ability to hit is in question due to the setback. Manager Dave Roberts said after Saturday's win that regardless of the results of Sunday's tests, Rushing will pause his throwing progression.

  • Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Dealing with elbow discomfort

Rushing's scratch from the Dodgers' lineup for Saturday's tilt against Washington was due to right elbow discomfort.

Rushing was removed from the lineup a couple hours before the scheduled start of the contest after originally being penciled in as Los Angeles' designated hitter. Per Katie Woo of The Athletic, Rushing threw on the field before the game as part of an effort to ramp up his throwing program as he works his way back from a minor UCL tear, so that's presumably when the elbow discomfort cropped up. It's unclear at the moment if he'll be held out beyond Saturday. Rushing has been limited to DH and pinch-hit duties since being reinstated from the injured list Sept. 1.

  • Dodgers' Dalton Rushing: Late scratch Saturday

Rushing (undisclosed) was removed from the Dodgers' lineup for Saturday's contest against the Nationals.

Los Angeles hasn't yet provided a reason for Rushing's removal, but that information should come shortly. Rushing had originally been slated to bat seventh as the DH. Instead, Teoscar Hernandez will move from left field to DH, and Alex Call will take Hernandez's spot in LF.

  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Back in action Saturday

Ruiz (head) will start at catcher and bat eighth Saturday against the Dodgers, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Ruiz will return to the starting nine for the first time since taking a foul tip off his mask during Wednesday's game against Atlanta. The 28-year-old has been productive when in the lineup recently, slashing .348/.411/.470 with two homers, nine RBI and eight runs scored across 73 plate appearances since the beginning of August.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: On bench Saturday

Smith isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Smith will catch a breather after going 1-for-13 with two RBI and two runs scored in his first four games since returning from the IL. Hunter Feduccia will handle catching duties and bat ninth.

  • Ethan Salas C | SD

Padres' Ethan Salas: Riding pine Saturday

Salas isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

The lefty-swinging Salas will retreat to the bench for a second consecutive game while the Padres take on a tough southpaw in Carlos Rodon. Freddy Fermin will start at catcher and bat seventh.

  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

    Braves' Sean Murphy: Resting Saturday

Murphy isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies.

Murphy will retreat to the dugout Saturday after going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks during a win in Friday's series opener. Drake Baldwin will start behind the plate in Murphy's absence, and Dominic Smith will serve as the DH.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

    Cubs' Carson Kelly: Idle Saturday

Kelly isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Miami.

Kelly will move to the bench Saturday after going 1-for-11 with an RBI and a run scored in three games to begin September. Miguel Amaya will handle catching duties and bat ninth.
