  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Activated from 60-day IL

The Diamondbacks activated Moreno (finger) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Moreno wound up being sidelined for more than two months with a fractured finger, but he's ready to roll after going 8-for-20 with a pair of home runs in six rehab contests with Triple-A Reno. The 25-year-old will resume his role as Arizona's primary catcher.

  • Jose Herrera C | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Booted off 40-man roster

The Diamondbacks designated Herrera for assignment Friday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

The team needed to free up spots on its 26-man and 40-man rosters for the return of Gabriel Moreno (finger), and Herrera is the odd man out. Herrera has managed just a .200/.280/.259 batting line across parts of four seasons at the major-league level, but with teams always looking for catching depth, it's possible he draws interest on waivers.

  • Ali Sanchez C | BOS

Mets' Ali Sanchez: Signs with Mets after electing FA

The Mets signed Sanchez to a minor-league contract Friday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Sanchez elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Monday. He'll latch on with the Mets and provide some additional catching depth. The 28-year-old has also spent time with the Blue Jays this season, and he slashed .279/.347/.419 in 199 plate appearances with their Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo. Sanchez has appeared in just nine MLB games in 2025.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Returning to lineup Friday

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Moreno (finger) will be activated from the 60-day injured list and be in the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds, MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM reports.

Moreno caught back-to-back games on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday, which was the final hurdle for him to clear before rejoining the Diamondbacks' active roster. He's been sidelined since mid-June with a fractured finger.

  • Giants' Andrew Knizner: Doubles in loss

Knizner went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored in Thursday's 8-4 loss to the Padres.

Knizner lined a double to right field in the third inning, driving in San Francisco's first run, before coming around to score. The hit was his first since Aug. 9 and just his second this month. The backup catcher is slashing .172/.213/.241 with eight runs scored, three RBI and one home run across 62 plate appearances this season.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Two more hits Thursday

Adams went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI in Thursday's win over the Mets.

The 29-year-old continues to hold up surprisingly well in a starting role while Keibert Ruiz (concussion) remains sidelined. Over 30 games since Ruiz returned to the IL in early July, Adams is slashing .260/.343/.427 with four doubles, four homers, nine RBI and 13 runs. Ruiz is participating in baseball activities but remains without a timeline for his activation.

  • Hunter Goodman RF | COL

Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Added to Rockies' lineup

Goodman will start at designated hitter and bat third in Thursday's game against the Dodgers.

Goodman had been scheduled for a day off, but Warming Bernabel had to be scratched after being hit in the face with a ball pregame. Kyle Farmer is taking Bernabel's spot at first base, while Goodman is sliding in at DH where Farmer had been slotted.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Getting breather

Bailey is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in San Diego.

Bailey had made four straight starts at catcher, so he's earned a day off in Thursday's matinee. Andrew Knizner is behind the plate and batting ninth for the Giants.

  • Cubs' Reese McGuire: Drawing start for day game

McGuire will start at catcher and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Brewers.

Carson Kelly caught all nine innings of the Cubs' 4-3 win Wednesday night, so he'll get a breather for Thursday's matinee and give way to McGuire behind the plate. McGuire looked to be at risk at losing out on the top backup catcher role when Miguel Amaya was activated from the 60-day injured list Aug. 12 after a lengthy absence due to an oblique injury, but Amaya sustained a sprained left ankle in his first game back in action and went back on the IL two days later.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Grabbing seat Thursday

Torrens is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Nationals.

Torrens is the Mets' new starting catcher indefinitely while Francisco Alvarez (thumb) is shelved, but he'll begin Thursday's matinee on the bench. Hayden Senger is behind the dish and batting ninth.
