Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Tuesday that Amaya (oblique) is "not close" to a return to game action, MLB.com reports.

Amaya has resumed throwing, taking normal batting practice, and catching bullpen sessions, but he looks as though he'll need a little more time to ramp up the intensity of his workouts before he's ready to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment. The Cubs have already indicated that Amaya won't return from the 10-day injured list until around the All-Star break at the earliest while he recovers from a left oblique strain. Chicago can afford to be patient, as Carson Kelly has performed well as the team's primary backstop with Amaya on the shelf.

Maldonado is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Phillies.

Elias Diaz will draw the start behind the dish for the first game of the day, but expect Maldonado to handle catching duties for the nightcap. Maldonado batted just .179 with two home runs, five runs and three RBI over 20 games in June, but despite his lackluster production, he still appears to be the Padres' preferred catcher.

Adams is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Tigers.

Drew Millas will start behind the plate for the early game, but Adams will presumably return to the lineup for the nightcap to handle catching duties. Since Keibert Ruiz (concussion) landed on the 7-day injured list June 24, Adams had started in four of the Nationals' last five games.

Mack went 4-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI for Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.

All of a sudden, the 22-year-old catcher might be the hottest hitter in the International League. Over the last seven games, Mack has gone 16-for-29 (.552) with two doubles, five homers, nine runs and nine RBI. There's no room for him on the big-league roster right now, but Mack could rocket up prospect lists in the second half if he continues to rake.

Bart is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals.

Even with the Pirates and Cardinals wrapping up their series with a day game after a night game, Pittsburgh will go with Henry Davis at catcher for the second day in a row. Since returning from the injured list June 17, Bart has made eight starts to Davis' seven starts, but Davis has started behind the dish in three of the last four contests.

Goodman went 2-for-4 with two solo homers, a walk and an additional run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

After being out of the lineup since June 25 with a left hamstring injury, Goodman made a statement in his return Tuesday by launching solo home runs in the first and ninth innings. While the Rockies have endured a difficult season, the young catcher is enjoying a breakout campaign, slashing .290/.337/.532 with 36 extra-base hits (16 home runs) and 50 RBI across 77 games.

McCann went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Giants.

McCann's first homer of the year was the Diamondbacks' last run in this contest. The catcher is 4-for-8 with two extra-base hits, two RBI, three walks and four runs scored over three contests since signing a major-league deal with Arizona on June 23. He's seen a little less time than Jose Herrera behind the dish, but both have been steady at the plate, so the playing time is unlikely to change much.

Kelly went 2-for-2 with a walk, two doubles and three RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Guardians.

It's been an up-and-down season for Kelly, who started the year hot with a 1.347 OPS through the end of April. The veteran catcher's OPS dipped to .620 in June to go along with a .203 batting average, but he's now batting .379 over his last 10 games with four extra-base hits and five RBI. Kelly has been volatile, though he should remain Chicago's primary backstop, at least until Miguel Amaya (oblique) returns in the near future.

The Rockies optioned Fulford to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Fulford has posted a .687 OPS with one homer over 14 games while occasionally spelling top catcher Hunter Goodman behind the plate. Austin Nola is grabbing Fulford's roster spot.

The Rockies selected Nola's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

The Rockies are swapping out backup catchers, with Nola taking Braxton Fulford's spot on the roster. Nola was hitting .347/.411/.474 with one home run in 26 contests with Albuquerque and will see the occasional start at catcher on days when Hunter Goodman is resting or serving as the designated hitter.
