Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Appears to avoid serious injury
Davis (lower body) said after Saturday's 116-105 win over the Rockets that the injury that forced him out of the contest in the third quarter is "nothing serious," Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports. "It wouldn't loosen up and let go," Davis said of his injury, which he said was to his groin and quadricep area. "I'm fine."
Making his Mavericks debut after he hadn't played since Jan. 28 due to an abdominal strain before the Lakers traded him to Dallas last weekend, Davis grabbed at his groin area while attending to defend the Rockets' Alperen Sengun with 2:10 remaining in the third quarter. He asked to be taken out of the game following the Mavericks' next offensive possession and was sidelined for the rest of the contest with what the team labeled called a lower-body injury. Fortunately for Davis, he seems to have avoided any sort of major aggravation of the abdominal strain, though it wouldn't be surprising if he was held out of the Mavericks' next game Monday versus the Kings. Prior to Saturday's contest, head coach Jason Kidd said Davis would play around 36-to-38 minutes in his debut. Davis was on track to reach that benchmark before his exit late in the third quarter, finishing the day with 26 points (10-18 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 4-6 FT), 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks in 31 minutes.
