Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon McCarthy couldn't make it out of the fifth inning in a loss Saturday, giving up five earned runs on nine hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings while striking out four in his team's 5-0 defeat against the Reds.
McCarthy (1-7) cruised through three innings before giving up three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. It was his second straight start giving up five earned runs. Despite owning an ugly 5.20 ERA, McCarthy has posted an excellent 63:13 K:BB ratio in 72 2/3 innings. He's scheduled to take on the Braves Friday.
