Carlos Gonzalez will avoid DL after re-aggravating finger injury
All-Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez continues to battle a nagging finger injury, but he will avoid the DL for now.

During his first at-bat on Wednesday night, Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez re-aggravated the sprained ligament in his right middle finger and had to leave the game. X-rays showed no further damage, however.
“I am not going on the DL. Nobody wants to go on the DL. I will just grind through it,” said CarGo to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. “It’s not going to make a difference if I sit out for two weeks. It only takes one swing and it goes right back to where it was ... We will see how it feels in a couple of days, and go from there."
The 27-year-old Gonzalez will rest for a few days before returning to the lineup at some point this coming weekend. He sat out last weekend to rest the finger and went 5-for-5 in Monday's game.
“It’s frustrating for him, it’s frustrating for [manager Walt Weiss]. But we saw another doctor, and it was the same thing,” said trainer Keith Dugger. “These things usually linger the entire season. It’s a day-by-day thing. We can tape it a million different ways, but if you get out in front on a swing, it can hurt it again.”
Despite the injury, CarGo came into Wednesday's game hitting .304/.370/.597 (146 OPS+) with 26 homers and 21 stolen bases. He currently leads the NL in SLG, OPS (.967) and total bases (230).
The Rockies have fallen to eight games back in the NL West at 51-58. They've lost three in a row and 26 of their last 44 games.
