Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz launched a two-run homer in Game 2 of the World Series, but it was the only offense his team could muster as they fell to the Cardinals 4-2, evening the series at 1-1 going into three games in St. Louis.
Ortiz grounded out in the second inning before drawing a walk with a man on second and no outs in the fourth inning. He wasn't able to score that inning but put his team on top with the two-run home run over the Green Monster in the sixth inning.
Ortiz came up next in the eighth with a man on first, reaching on a single to the second baseman, who made a diving play on the ball in shallow left. However, the runners were stranded on base when the next batter popped out to the shortstop.
Ortiz is doing about all he can to deliver a championship to Boston, going 4 for 6 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs over the first two games of the series. Manager John Farrell plans to play Ortiz at first base in Game 3 with the designated hitter role off the table, but he said Thursday he'll manage the position on a game-by-game basis moving forward.
