Giants third baseman Casey McGehee has accepted his assignment and been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, the team announced on Tuesday.
"I think it's always surprising when stuff like this happens," MCGehee said on Sunday to CSN Bay Area. "I haven't had a whole lot of time to process it. Obviously I'm disappointed. It's not the kind of news you want to hear ever. The only thing I can say is I wish that obviously I would have gotten off to a little different start.
"If you get off to the kind of start I feel I’m capable of and expect of myself, we're not having this conversation."
McGehee was designated for assignment last week to make room for Hunter Strickland after struggling to a .200 average with nine RBI in 110 at-bats this season.
