In what might be a microcosm of the Washington Nationals season, a fan in the stands at Nationals Park struggled for an indeterminate period Wednesday night in putting on a cheap, plastic poncho as it poured down rain. TV cameras caught much of the action in the bottom of the seventh inning of a 5-0 Tampa Bay Rays victory.

Bryce Harper keeps swearing the Nats are "a great team," but they sport a 34-32 record coming into play. This fan swears he knows to put on a one-size-fits-all poncho -- but can he?

Who among us hasn't been here? You've got to love how the first shot is of two guys drinking beers comfortably while wearing the poncho. It wasn't too hard for them, so what's this guy's excuse? The key might be to remove your cap first, as the Washington Post says. The other guys, the ones who mastered their ponchos, aren't wearing caps. Struggling Poncho Man refuses to remove his cap at first, but ...

Did the guy ever get the poncho on the right way? We don't know. The Nats and Rays only played nine innings.

Good work by Nationals analyst F.P. Santangelo giving play-by-play of the Poncho Struggle. Perhaps a 2 1/2-hour broadcast of people struggling to put on clothes would make for a good reality show. It's better than Nats baseball on some nights, except for Harper.
