Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter participated in on-field batting practice Monday for the first time since having ankle surgery last October, the latest positive stride in his recovery. Jeter, who has been hitting in an indoor cage, also took part in a 25-minute defensive session at shortstop during the team's first full-squad workout. "It felt fine," said Jeter, who broke his left ankle lunging for a grounder in the playoffs last year. "It felt good. It was the first time I was doing everything on the field, in terms of hit on the field and ground balls on the dirt. Everything felt good."
