Pirates outfielder Marlon Byrd came up big on Tuesday night as Pittsburgh defeated the Reds to win the National League wild card playoff game and advance to the NLDS.

Byrd homered in the bottom of the second inning in his first career playoff at-bat against Johnny Cueto to get the scoring started. Russell Martin homered two batters later in the inning. Byrd went 1 for 4 with two RBI in the game.

Byrd played in 30 regular season games for the Pirates and hit .318 down the stretch after coming over from the Mets. He hit three HRs with 17 RBI for the Pirates to put them into the postseason.
