Blue Jays left fielder Melky Cabrera has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis, the club announced Thursday night. As a corresponding move, infielder Munenori Kawasaki has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo after only being recently sent down.

Cabrera irritated his knee during Thursday's 7-4 loss to the Red Sox in Boston. He had reportedly been dealing with soreness in both legs through most of the season.

Cabrera, 28, is hitting .278/.321/.362 with 13 doubles, two triples, three homers, 29 RBI and 34 runs this season.

With Cabrera on the shelf, expect Rajai Davis to get the everyday at-bats in left field while Kawasaki provides depth in the infield.

The Blue Jays have lost three of their last four after winning 11 straight and are 7.5 games back in the AL East.
