The Pirates have recalled first baseman Matt Hague from Triple-A Indianapolis, the club announced via Twitter. Catcher Eric Fryer has been optioned to Indianapolis to make room on the 25-man roster.

Hague earned a spot on the Pirates' Opening Day roster after hitting .400 with seven home runs in spring training. He hit just .235/.278/.265 in 28 games in the majors and was sent back to Triple-A on June 26. Hague's Triple-A numbers have suffered this year as well, as he has just a .701 OPS at Indianapolis after two consecutive campaigns over .800.

Fryer was serving as a third catcher behind Rod Barajas and Michael McKenry. He appeared in just four games, once as a defensive replacement and three times as a pinch hitter.
