AL Cy Young: Price edges out Verlander

Mets knuckle-baller R.A. Dickey has won the National League Cy Young Award for 2012.

Dickey, of course, is more than just a guy who throws a funky pitch and has a compelling personal narrative: he's a most worthy winner. This season, Dickey went 20-6 (every one of those 20 wins was a quality start) with a 2.73 ERA (good for 2nd in the NL) in 233 2/3 innings pitched (good for first in the NL).

Dickey also paced the senior circuit with 230 strikeouts. Additionally, he led the majors in quality-start percentage (82%) and ranked third in average game score (62.1).

Dickey becomes the first Met to win the award since Dwight Gooden in 1985. He's also the first knuckle-baller ever to claim the Cy.
