While paddleboarding Monday morning in Chicago's Belmont Harbor, former Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood came across the dead body of a man, according to a police report (via chicagotribune.com).

From the Tribune:

Wood was paddleboarding around 11:10 a.m. Monday when he saw the body, according to police. "Mr. Wood immediately notified 911 of this discovery,'' according to a police report.

Officers notified Area North detectives and took photos of the body, according to the report. On the victim's left wrist was an identification tag indicating the man had been reported missing by a North Side nursing home after being released by a local hospital on June 19, the report said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the victim as a 40-year-old man from the 5400 block of North Broadway. An autopsy conducted today was inconclusive pending further studies, according to the office.
