CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Royals have re-signed left-hander Bruce Chen to a one-year, $3.25-million deal that includes a $5.5-million option/$1-million buyout for 2015. That comes to $4.25 million guaranteed.
Chen, 36, is coming off a 2013 season in which he pitched to a 3.27 ERA, 126 ERA+ and 2.17 K/BB ratio in 121 innings of work. Of his 34 appearances, 15 were starts. For his career, Chen owns an ERA+ of 96 across parts of 15 major-league seasons.
In the upcoming season, Chen figures to work as a swing-man for the Royals.
