Ryan Vogelsong to return from disabled list Friday
Ryan Vogelsong broke his hand on May 20 and now he's set to return to the hill Friday, getting the start against Baltimore.
Giants starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong has been out since breaking his hand on May 20. Friday, he'll make his return to the hill, getting the start against the Orioles. Manager Bruce Bochy told Vogelsong and reporters (including John Shea) Tuesday of the decision.
The 2013 season has thus far been a bit of a nightmare for Vogelsong. After a long journey back to the majors -- for the first time since 2006 -- he was an All-Star in 2011 and in the rotation for a World Series champion in 2012. But this season, the 36-year-old right-hander is 2-4 with a 7.19 ERA and 1.72 WHIP and now missed a serious chunk of the season in recovering from a broken hand that required surgery.
He had, however, worked five shutout innings before breaking his hand May 20 during an at-bat where he swung and got hit with a pitch on the knuckles.
In four starts across three levels of the minors for his rehab assignment, Vogelsong put together a 1.72 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 13 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings.
