WATCH: Carlos Beltran makes history with 400th career home run
The Yankees' Carlos Beltran joined elite company against the White Sox on Sunday.
On Sunday in the Bronx (NYY 7, CHW 5), Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran tallied the 400th home run of his career. Here's a look ...
Indeed, Beltran is now the 54th hitter in MLB history to get to 400 home runs. He's also just fourth switch-hitter to reach 400 homers, as he joins Mickey Mantle, Eddie Murray, and Chipper Jones. Bring his excellent baserunning into the mix, and Beltran's now just the fifth player to tally at least 400 homers and 300 stolen bases in his career (the others are Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays, and Andre Dawson).
So ... future Hall of Famer? On the merits, Beltran should be. He owns a career OPS+ of 121 across more than 10,000 plate appearances. As well, for years he provided elite defense in center field, and he also added a great deal of value on the bases. His career WAR of 68.3 ranks 75th all-time among position players, and that doesn't take into account his excellent production in the playoffs (.332/.441/.674 and 16 homers in 52 postseason games).
For now, though, the 39-year-old Beltran is still providing the Yankees with good power numbers.
