Orioles starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen was much better in his second spring start Sunday against the Pirates. After yielding two runs on five hits in two innings during his spring debut, Chen tossed three scoreless innings Sunday, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Chen lowered his spring ERA from 9.00 to 3.60. He's recorded three strikeouts in five innings.
"Chen was crisp. That was good to see," manager Buck Showalter said, per MASNsports.com. "He had that changeup, was very effective. He was a little crisper stuff-wise, especially to carry it that many innings on kind of a hitter-friendly day. I'm very encouraged with the progress that they've made with the changeup and the breaking ball."
