AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell9M agoAll the other NL contenders play tomorrow, and the Padres don't, which rules because I can finally stop mentioning all these half-games every time I bring up the standings.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell30M agoThe Padres look postseason-ready. Dylan Cease looks Game 1 ready. And the San Diego offense looks ready to mash against just about anyone. https://t.co/Zd3fqX0yOj

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell1H agoFinal: Padres 4, Astros 0 Dylan Cease pitched 8 1/3 dominant innings. The Padres went back-to-back-to-back in the 8th. They won a series against the Astros with a bit of a postseason feel to it. Speaking of which, the magic number is 5. Padres can clinch as soon as Saturday.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell2H agoFramber Valdez's first pitch of the sixth is a laser of a home run from Manny Machado, 110 mph off the bat. The Padres lead 1-0. Machado is two homers shy of a third consecutive 30-homer season (and two of those seasons will have come despite the effects of a major elbow injury).

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell4H agoLuis Arraez's knee is still sore, but that's not exactly why he's out of the lineup, Mike Shildt said. Fernando Tatis Jr. had a scheduled DH day. (The Padres are adhering to a strict schedule in his return from a leg injury.) No need to push Arraez by playing him in the field.

AJ Cassavell@AJCassavell6H agoGame 153: Astros at Padres (Valdez vs. Cease), 3:40 p.m. PT at Petco Park Luis Arraez gets the day off against the lefty Valdez. Unclear whether it’s related to his sore knee. https://t.co/t07z8qrkLD
