Garcia went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Sunday's split-squad game against the Nationals. The veteran outfielder is coming off a 2022 season in which he posted career worsts with a .583 OPS and 28.7 percent strikeout rate, and he hit only eight home runs in 98 games. Unfortunately, his performance this spring doesn't suggest a rebound is on the horizon. Garcia went 7-for-49 (.143) with two homers and two doubles during Grapefruit League play, but his 1:20 BB:K is especially troubling. If he has a slow start to his 2023, the 31-year-old could lose playing time quickly as the Marlins have plenty of options to handle the corner outfield spots, including Bryan De La Cruz, Jesus Sanchez and Jorge Soler.... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Launches first spring homer
Garcia went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. The double came off Corey Kluber, while his first long ball of the spring came in the sixth inning off non-roster invitee Jake Faria. Garcia is coming off a brutal 2022 campaign after slugging a career-high 29 homers the year before as a Brewer, but the Marlins are hoping he can at least rebound to something closer to his .265/.319/.420 career slash line, and he remains set as the team's starting right fielder.... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: On bench for season finale
Garcia isn't in the lineup Wednesday against Atlanta. Garcia is getting a breather for Wednesday's season finale after he went 1-for-11 with a double, a run, two walks and five strikeouts over the last three games. Peyton Burdick will start in right field and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Not in lineup
Garcia will sit Saturday against the Brewers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The Brewers will go with eight righties against southpaw Aaron Ashby, but Garcia won't be one of them. His absence may be related to the fact that he only just returned from a hamstring injury Thursday, and the Marlins may not want him playing three games in a row right away. Brian Anderson will start in right field.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Smacks grand slam in return from IL
Garcia went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Thursday's victory over the Brewers. With the Marlins down 2-0 in the eighth inning, Garcia crushed 1-2 fastball 411 feet to right center to put his team up 4-2, making up for a pair of errors earlier in the contest. The home run was Garcia's eighth on the season, and he is now slashing .230/.267/.324 through 363 plate appearances. The veteran should continue to see regular at-bats in right field to close the season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Activated from injured list
Garcia (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Garcia spent two and a half weeks on the injured list, but he recently completed a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville in which he went 2-for-7 with an RBI, a walk and three strikeouts. He should take over as Miami's primary right fielder over the final few games of the 2022 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Rehab assignment begins Monday
Garcia (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garcia has been on the injured list for just over two weeks, but his rehab assignment signals that he'll likely have a chance to rejoin the Marlins late in the regular season. It's possible that the 31-year-old will be reinstated from the injured list following just one or two rehab games, which would put him on track to return around the middle of this week.... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Hits IL with hamstring injury
Garcia (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports. It's possible that this injury -- presumably a hamstring strain -- ends Garcia's disappointing first season with the Marlins. He hit .230 with seven home runs, 29 runs, 31 RBI and four steals in 93 games. Jordan Groshans' contract was selected in a corresponding move, and youngsters Jerar Encarnacion and Bryan De La Cruz could get extra playing time down the stretch.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Still not starting
Garcia (hamstring) isn't in the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Rangers, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garcia aggravated his hamstring injury Saturday against the Mets and will remain out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. Bryan De La Cruz is starting in right field and batting eighth during Monday's nightcap.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Not ready to start
Garcia (hamstring) is out of the lineup for the first game of Monday's doubleheader with the Rangers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Garcia returned Sept. 6 following a month-long stint on the injured list due to a hamstring strain, but he lasted only five games before aggravating the hamstring in Saturday's 11-3 loss to the Mets. The Marlins are viewing Garcia as day-to-day with left hamstring discomfort, but he could be a candidate to go back on the IL later this week if he doesn't move past the issue quickly.... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Absent from Sunday's lineup
Garcia (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garcia left Saturday's contest after feeling soreness in his left hamstring, and he will get at least one day to rest. Brian Anderson will cover right field for the Marlins on Sunday.... See More ... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Exits with hamstring injury
Garcia left Saturday's game against the Mets with left hamstring discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garcia recently missed over a month with a strained left hamstring and has only been active since Tuesday. It's unclear if he just needs a day or two to heal or if he's set to return to the injured list. The Marlins are out of the playoff picture, so they have no real incentive to take any risks with a player who signed a four-year, $53 million deal over the offseason.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Three hits in Philadelphia
Garcia went 3-for-4 with one RBI in Thursday's 6-5 victory over the Phillies. Garcia tallied an RBI single to put the Miami up by three in the third inning. The outfielder had recorded two 0-for-4 games prior to this contest following his return from the injured list Tuesday. The 31-year-old is having a tough year, as his .589 OPS is a career worst.... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Activated from injured list
Garcia (hamstring) was activated from the injured list Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Garcia missed over a month of action with his injury, but he is ready to rejoin the big club after appearing in six games on a rehab assignment. He figures to resume his role as the Marlins' regular right fielder, and he will do just that Tuesday night while occupying the cleanup spot in the batting order.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Starting rehab stint
Garcia (hamstring) will report to Triple-A Jacksonville to begin a rehab assignment Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. The 31-year-old has been sidelined since suffering the hamstring strain Aug. 2, but he's now been cleared for game action in the minors. Garcia shouldn't require a lengthy stay in Jacksonville and should be able to rejoin the Marlins sometime next week.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: IL bound with strained hamstring
The Marlins placed Garcia on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a strained left hamstring, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Miami will swap Garcia off the 26-man active roster with first baseman/designated hitter Garrett Cooper (wrist), who was reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move. While Garcia is on the shelf along with Jorge Soler (back), the Marlins should have everyday roles in the outfield available for JJ Bleday, Jesus Sanchez and Bryan De La Cruz.... See More ... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Exits with hamstring issue
Garcia was removed from Tuesday's game against the Reds with left hamstring discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Garcia went 0-for-1 before leaving Tuesday's contest after the second inning. The severity of the injury is unclear, and the 31-year-old should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Takes seat Saturday
Garcia isn't starting Saturday against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Garcia is getting a breather after he hit .286 with a homer, three runs and two RBI over nine games since the All-Star break. Bryan De La Cruz will shift to right field while Jesus Sanchez starts in left.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Steals fourth base
Garcia went 0-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies. His ninth-inning pilfer came on the back half of a double steal with Billy Hamilton, and it was Garcia's first since May 14 and only his fourth of the season. The 31-year-old outfielder hasn't supplied much power either -- he has only six home runs in 75 games this year and has yet to go yard in July, slashing .244/.292/.267 through 48 plate appearances this month.... Marlins' Avisail Garcia: Two hits, two RBI in win
Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning win over the Pirates. Garcia notched a double in the fourth inning off JT Brubaker before later adding a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth frame. The multi-hit effort was his second in the last four games he's started, while the double was his first extra-base knock since June 29. Since the beginning of July, Garcia has produced a .263 average with a double, five RBI and two runs over 38 at-bats.... See More ... See Less
