Two of those long balls have come in his last nine starts, during which time he's also hit .250 with five RBI and four runs scored. Grandal was held out of Friday's lineup with back tightness, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Pops homer in win

Grandal went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 3-2 win over the Twins. Grandal supplied an RBI single and scored in the fourth inning, then added a game-tying solo shot in the eighth. This was the catcher's third game back from a knee injury -- he's gone 3-for-10 with two walks since his return. The 33-year-old is slashing .207/.311/.276 with four homers, 23 RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base through 302 plate appearances this season, and he should continue to serve as the White Sox's primary catcher when healthy.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Makes return from IL

The White Sox reinstated Grandal (knee) from the 10-day injured list. He'll start at catcher and bat sixth Wednesday against the Royals. Grandal looked to be in danger of missing extended action after he exited an Aug. 20 game against the Guardians with a left knee strain, but after an MRI revealed no major ligament or tendon damage, he ended up spending the minimum amount of time on the IL. He was productive over a recent three-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte, but the career-worst .566 OPS he posted for the White Sox prior to landing on the shelf could put Grandal at risk of settling into a timeshare at catcher with Seby Zavala over the final five weeks of the campaign.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Set to return Wednesday

Manager Tony La Russa said Grandal (knee) is expected to be reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. With Eloy Jimenez mostly being limited to designated-hitter duties, Grandal is likely to see most of his time behind the plate rather than splitting time between catcher and designated hitter.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Rehab stint on tap

Grandal (knee) will report to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Starts swinging bat

White Sox manager Tony La Russa said that Grandal (knee) was able to take some swings in the batting cage Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Grandal was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday after suffering what initially appeared to be a significant injury in Saturday's win over the Guardians, but the 33-year-old already looks to be making tremendous strides in his recovery just a couple days later. Taking swings in the cage likely presents fewer complications for Grandal compared to running the bases and playing catcher, but the fact that he hasn't been shut down from activity at least bodes well for him making a quick return from the IL. The White Sox are currently expecting Grandal to be sidelined for around 10-to-14 days with the left knee strain.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Avoids major injury

Grandal is expected to return from the 10-day injured list in 10-to-14 days after an MRI on Sunday revealed no acute damage to the ligaments, tendons or cartilage around the catcher's strained left knee. The White Sox had reason to fear that Grandal may have suffered a season-ending injury in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Guardians after he was spotted on crutches following a home-plate collision, but the veteran backstop is facing a more favorable prognosis than expected after getting sent in for additional testing. According to the team, Grandal is still dealing with inflammation caused by a hyperextension of the knee, so he'll at least need some time off for the swelling to subside. Seby Zavala is expected to serve as the White Sox's primary catcher for the duration of Grandal's stay on the 10-day injured list.
