  • Logan Darnell: Heads to independent ball

Darnell signed a contract with the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League on Thursday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

The southpaw spent 2018 in the Nationals' minor-league system, compiling a 4.83 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP across 120 innings at Double-A and Triple-A. After failing to garner any interest in free agency, Darnell will head to an independent league in an attempt to recoup some of his value before presumably attempting a comeback in affiliated ball.

  • Nationals' Logan Darnell: Inks deal with Nationals

Darnell signed a minor-league deal with Washington on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Darnell hasn't appeared in a major-league contest since the 2014 season with the Twins, as he's toiled around the minors during the past few years for Minnesota, and most recently, Tampa Bay. He pitched in 74.2 innings with Double-A Montgomery within the Rays' system in 2017, posting a 3.98 ERA and 1.48 WHIP while holding a 54:16 K:BB. Looking ahead, he will likely begin the upcoming season for one of the Nationals' affiliates, and isn't expected to make much of an impact for the big-league club.

  • Rays' Logan Darnell: Signs pact with Rays

Darnell signed a minor-league deal the Rays on Thursday and was assigned to Double-A Montgomery.

The left-hander spun a nice debut for the Biscuits on Thursday, going seven innings and allowing one run with four strikeouts. Darnell will merely provide organizational depth for Tampa Bay, though. The 28-year-old hasn't pitched in the majors since 2014.

  • Dodgers' Logan Darnell: Inks MiLB deal with Dodgers

Darnell signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Thursday, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.

Darnell was pitching in independent ball prior to this deal, although he does hold some major-league experience thanks to his 2014 stint with the Twins. However, he only managed to post a 7.13 ERA in that cup of coffee with Minnesota, so he'll likely spend most of his time with his new organization as an organizational depth piece.

  • Twins' Logan Darnell: On Triple-A DL with sore shoulder

Darnell has been placed on the 7-day DL at Triple-A Rochester with a sore left shoulder, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Darnell auditioned as a lefty reliever in spring training, but has been a starter at Triple-A. He's having a decent season with a 3.53 ERA, but his meager 4.4 K/9 reflects limited upside.

  • Twins' Logan Darnell: Assigned to minor league camp

Darnell was re-assigned to Minnesota's minor league camp, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Darnell was in competition for a bullpen role this spring. It will be interesting to see if he stays in the bullpen at Triple-A. The Twins are short on quality lefty specialists, so Darnell could work his way back to the majors this summer in that role.

  • Twins' Logan Darnell: Outrighted to Triple-A

Darnell was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester on Thursday but he will be invited to major league spring training, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.

Darnell cleared waivers Thursday after being designated for assignment last week and he will now be sent to the Twins' Triple-A affiliate. He struggled at the major league level last season, working a 7.12 ERA across 24.0 innings, but he had strong numbers at Rochester. In fact, general manager Terry Ryan named him as a possible candidate for a back of the rotation spot on Thursday, according to Berardino.

  • Twins' Logan Darnell: Designated for assignment

Darnell was designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday.

Darnell pitched relatively well in his stint with the Triple-A Rochester club, but couldn't replicate that success in his chances with the Twins. Following the team's addition of Mike Strong off waivers, the 26-year-old southpaw was removed from the 40-man roster to open up a spot. He will almost assuredly begin the season at Triple-A, but the question is which organization he will be with.
