Nationals' David Goforth: Comes to terms with Nationals
Goforth inked a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Saturday which includes an invite to spring training, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.
Goforth spent the last few years with the Brewers, but only appeared in one major-league game in 2017, while spending most of his time with Triple-A Colorado Springs. At the hitters' friendly confines of the Sky Sox, he posted a 3.98 ERA and 38:26 K:BB over 54.1 relief innings. Moving forward, he will look to find a spot on the Opening Day roster with Washington, but is likely to wind up beginning the year at the Triple-A level.

David Goforth: Elects free agency
Goforth will become a free agent at the end of the 2017 season.
Goforth only appeared in 31 games for the Brewers after joining the organization in 2011, including just one relief outing this year. He spent a majority of the 2017 season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and fared pretty well, posting a 3.98 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in a hitter's park. The 29-year-old is unlikely to become a consistent presence in any major-league bullpen but should have the chance to make a club's roster come spring training.

The Brewers made a flurry of roster moves Thursday, including the acquisition of right-hander Oliver Drake from the Orioles. Goforth had just recently been promoted to the Brewers and made one appearance, a scoreless inning against the Cubs, during his stint. He is now subject to waivers and could also be traded to another club.

Goforth was designated for assignment in late November, and this seals his fate as he'll head to the minors to continue acting as organizational bullpen depth. He does have some big league experience to his credit, but the right-hander's numbers in the majors have been nothing to call home about, which will likely limit his ceiling to that of a middle reliever.

Goforth missed out on a bullpen spot with the Brewers after a poor spring in which he posted a 5.73 ERA over 11 innings. The right-hander did compile 10 strikeouts versus one walk over that same span, however, so it wasn't all bad. If he excels in the early going at Triple-A, he could be among the team's first call-ups of the season.
